OBITUARY for ROBERT G. YORKS
Robert G. Yorks, 93, of Port Royal, passed away at 9:08 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at his home.
Born on January 24, 1931 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he is a son of the late Harry J. Yorks and Rosa (Ebersole) Yorks.
On September 7, 1955, he married his late wife, Shirley A. (Hockenberry) Yorks with whom he was blessed to share over 64 years of marriage before her passing on February 16, 2020.
He is survived by a son, Ronald G. Yorks and his wife Christie of Mifflintown and he leaves behind two granddaughters, Alyssa Davis and her husband Paige of Baltimore, MD and Rebekah Kendall and her husband Scott of Williamsport; four great-grandchildren, Madison Rall, Nolan Rall, Elijah Davis, and Malcolm Davis. Robert is also survived by five siblings, Dorothy Sheaffer, Donald Yorks, Ruth Hall, Marjorie Hall and Rosalie Miller.
Mr. Yorks was a 1950 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, and a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church. He proudly served our country in the United States Army.
Robert was employed for forty-five years in maintenance at Empire Kosher, Mifflintown.
He enjoyed tinkering and making things out of what he had on hand and could virtually fix anything. Robert had a good sense of humor and enjoyed telling good stories and stories of the past. He maintained his wife’s flower beds meticulously after her passing.
Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, February 5, 2024 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Rev. Samuel Leister officiating. Interment will be private in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Juniata County Veterans Council will accord military burial honors at the funeral home.
